Using Helical Piles for Foundation Repair

A helical pile consists of at least one (two for raising footings) Helix-shaped steel bearing plate attached to a central steel shaft. Each helix is circular in plan, formed into a screw thread with defined pitch (typically three inches). Installation is by hydraulic motors mounted to an excavator. The helical pile is rotated (screwed) into the ground to advance one pitch distance per revolution. Helical piles can be fully extendable; so that the helix plates can be installed to a specific bearing depth. A helical foundation can be used to resist uplift and compression loads.
